![]() ![]() No traces of v3, which is the new standards the first of which released 6 years ago. SMB (Windows Shares) support: they only support v1 (deprecated) and v2 (soon to be deprecated). As if this was not enough, for some reason, the TimeMachine mount is only announced via SMB (see screenshot), meaning that automatic configuration on your Mac will keep failing as your LinkStation doesn't support this protocol. In addition they only support backing up over AFP, which has been deprecated 2 years ago by Apple and moved to SMB, so this could stop working any time when Apple decides to stop supporting TimeMachine over AFP at all. TimeMachine works by filling up the available space and then deleting old backups (something you can't really do manually) so, in other words, TM backups will *slowly take over all your available space* - no easy way out (and the only way out is for advanced tech people). First of all, it doesn't support volume quotas. TimeMachine support: it's simply impossible to use, for a number of reasons. I'll be a bit technical but include a summary. When it arrived I was first surprised by how old the web interface looked, as if it was coming from 10 years ago - after a few days of usage this proved to be only the cherry on the top, and I've come to the conclusion that this device simply doesn't do what it's advertised to be doing. ![]() I purchased this NAS after my WD My Cloud stopped working, as they were advertised as being pretty much the same. ![]()
